my first date in six months -- 2003-06-01 An update. A few weeks ago I met a really great woman D. through a really great friend. Always good to meet someone through a friend because then the psycho-screening is already done for you. She is super intelligent, a lawyer, funny and cute in the dykey way that I like. We went out for coffee a few times and out to dinner last week. After the dinner date she invited me to a concert - her firm had Chris DeBurgh tickets for the following week! So, we went, her treat! It was fun (even though I really didn't know much about DeBurgh at all - very 80s crooner, but still fun). He sang for over two hours and afterwards we went to a funky smoke-free bar for a drink. We sat on one of the couches and just talked. We have a lot in common, we both appreciate sensitivity, intelligence, respect and values. Honestly, if we don't keep dating, I still know I'm going to have a good friend. :) But oh, D. I'm starting to think this could *be* something, that she could be the woman I've been looking for. We talked about our wishes for a partner, and the required qualities versus the deal-breakers. They were practically identical! It seems I am destined to fall for older women though. If we really date (and even though she didn't specifically say that this was a date, I think it was) this will be the third older woman I've dated. What is wrong with me? I would like to say that I'm open-minded, that age doesn't matter to me, that I fall for the person. But is that really true? Am I just looking for someone who is stable, financially and emotionally, someone who can support me as I do my Ph.D.? I know that my heart doesn't think that, but there is definitely my wish for security and stability in my life. If D. can give it to me, and wants to, what is wrong with that? And if we are attracted to each other, both adults, and there is no power struggle, is that a crime? Why does age have to be such a taboo? Look at Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones? There are plenty examples of older and younger. I just wish I had a same-sex model. Oh, I do!!! Melissa Etheridge and Tammy Lynn Michaels. Thank god. D. is older, but everything I am looking for. And not totally old, I'm not talking gray and wrinkles either. She is completely my type stylewise, and intelligence wise. I am going to try not to let other people's reactions bug me, if we date. Because if she asks me out again, I am going to accept. I had an amazing time on Friday night!
