yay! -- 2003-04-03 Well, yesterday I had a good day. An awesome day. An amazing day! Let me begin. Started work with Credico, about 8:30 a.m. It was kind of busy, so I was happy, and right after I signed up customer number seven, I turned the corner of Canadian Tire to see a familiar face. Not any face. Not a regular face. An Alan Doyle face. From Great Big Sea!!!! Oh my god! Time stopped, and I don't remember much, except walking up confidentially and introducing myself. We shook hands. :) I told him about my thesis, and he said he would be really interested in reading it. Guess Bob Hallett didn't share! He wrote down his address for me to send it! And then we discussed Newfoundland bands, and I told him his band was only the second out of NF to have an entire thesis written on them. He said he was glad someone knew their story! Then I told him that I knew more about him than he did, and he laughed. I asked him for a personal interview, and then he gave me his manager's number, and told me to tell him that I was talking to him (Alan) and to set up a personal interview for May!!! Now I can get started on my Ph.D. research right away!!! :) Oh my god! I met Alan Doyle! In Canadian Tire! He was super friendly, and we chatted like old friends. Needless to say, I shook for an hour afterwards, with the adrenaline. As my friend Jess said, I guess you really do find everything in Canadian Tire. And more good news. I got the job in the Newfoundland Craft Council after! It is not full-time unfortunately, but it will keep me going over the summer. And this is going to be a great place to get some job experience, because this organization has a really good reputation. I went into the interview like I owned the place, and told the manager that I didn't mind starting at the bottom but I had every intention of moving up, and apparently that approach worked! For the first time in a long while, I woke up happy. Thank God, I'm pretty sure it was my turn for good news.
