CBC debut -- 2003-01-31 Well, something exciting happened to me this week. I got asked by CBC radio for an interview about my thesis! When I sent my c.v. for their perusal (looking for freelance work), somebody caught a glance at the title of my thesis (for those who don't know it's "Re-Articulating Canadian Popular Music Through a Local Lens: Examining Great Big Sea and Issues of Locality, Regionalism and Nationalism"), and thought it would be great to interview me on the morning show. So, I went in to the studio, and it was a lot of fun! They asked me why I decided to study Great Big Sea, some of the conclusions that I came up with, how the band reacted, how the professors reacted, etc. What was really funny was how the interviewer prompted me to give some "intellectual" conclusions. Snort. Like I would write 200 pages of fluff. No harm done though, I had multiple phone calls saying how great I sounded on the air, and how professional I was. :) Then when I got home, a production company had called and wondered if I would be interested in doing research for a Life and Times of Great Big Sea were they to get funding. Hell yeah! I'm not hoping too much, but it would be really cool to be that "expert" that they interview in the documentary that always looks like a crusty old professor. That will be me - minus the crusty! On another note - thanks to all the lovely lesbians who entertain me on diaryland. You get me through the tough times.
